How to Clean Nylon Bag

An outdoor backpack is almost made from nylon. After using the nylon bags for a long time, it will be getting old aged and stained with dust or oil. If it is washed with tap water, it is generally difficult to clean it up completely. Therefore, I am going to share some great tips and methods of how to clean a nylon bag like a professional.

Usually, Nylon bags are very durable because this material tends to repel water and resist damage. However, it still gets dirty sometimes. Using a DIY cleaning solution to remove stains or placing the bag in the washing machine will make it look like new. It is also useful to pay special attention to the most difficult stains.

Homemade DIY Cleaning Nylon Bags

Cold Water and Kitchen Cleaning Detergent

We share three cleaning methods today. The first one is to DIY a homemade cleaning detergent solution.

The first method is to prepare a homemade solution with cold water and dish soap. To make a homemade solution, mix cold water with a few drops of dish soap. The amount of soap you need to use will depend on whether you want to clean the entire bag or just the stain.

For some stains, use a cup (8 ounces) of water and 30 milliliters (1 ounce) of dish soap. Double or double clean the entire bag.

Do not use hot water when preparing the solution. Hot water will remove stains, making it more difficult to remove.

Toothbrush Cleans the Nylon Bags

The second cleaning is using scrub the bag with a toothbrush. Dip the toothbrush in the solution. Then, hold the other end of the bag with your hand and fry it into small pieces at a time. Move the brush circularly to remove dirt and stains.

Some foam is generated when scrubbing.

If there are stains on the bag, follow the same steps, but scrub for a longer time. Depending on the size of the stain, it may take time to scrub, but you should do this for at least one minute.

A Damp Cloth Works Wonder

Yeah, you can clean a nylon bag with a damp cloth. After removing the stain, clean the area with a cloth dampened with clean water. You may have to repeat this step more than once to remove all the soap in the nylon.

Dry the bag. Nylon is very waterproof, so you can pat it dry with a cloth.

Remember, if the bag has a cloth handle, it will take longer to dry.

Washing Machine Cleans a Nylon Bag

Yeah, you can also wash the nylon bags in the washing machine.

You should wash the bag with cold water. You are recommended to adjust the temperature of the washing machine during the coldest time. This will prevent stains from settling down when you wash the bag.

The second step is to add detergent into the water tank. You can clean the nylon bag with the detergent commonly used on clothes. It can be washing powder, liquid, or capsule. When washing a small amount of laundry, use half of the usual amount.

You should always wash the washing machine regularly. For delicate clothes, there is no need to adjust the washing machine during the cycle to wash the nylon bags. Adjust during the cycle used to wash the hardest clothes (such as denim pants or T-shirts).

Let the bag air dry. Nylon is very water-resistant, and the washing machine squeezes out most of the water. If the bag includes non-nylon fabric (e.g. handle), it should be air-dried.

Remove Oily Stains on A Nylon Bag

The first thing you should do is to absorb excess liquid on bags. If you spill oil on the bag, including salad dressing or car oil, you should remove it immediately. Using a towel or napkin, dab the stain to absorb as much stain as possible.

The more the oil is deposited on the fabric, the more difficult it is to remove the stain.

Secondly, you cover the stain with talcum powder. After removing the excess liquid, cover the area with talcum powder. Leave the powder on the stain for a minute or two.

Finally, use a brush to clean the dust. After leaving the pressed powder for a few minutes, gently brush it with a toothbrush. Talc must absorb oil and keep nylon clean.

If necessary, please repeat the process. Depending on the amount of oil in the bag, you will have to repeat these steps. Remember, you may not be able to remove all the grease from nylon.

Bonus

Nylon bags can be lightly ironed with an iron. It is recommended to use an upright steam iron to hang the bag upright (to avoid excessive temperature during ironing), and repeat the ironing for the wrinkled part to improve.

Do not lay flat and iron for a long time for a single part, so as to avoid burning the bag. The leather part needs to be covered with a cloth on the leather and then ironed. Because of indirect heating, it takes more time to repeat the whole process.

You cannot delete some spots. Over time, all nylon bags showed signs of deterioration. Some of the stain spots are not reversible no matter how much effort you put down on cleaning.
If there is a leather part in the bag, do not immerse it in water. This may damage the leather.
